The Right and Left Choice

MK put a post up last week which made me think about an article Stu and I posted in August 2007.  The conversation last week touched on how the Catholic Church actually preaches more of Democratic talking points when it comes to social issuesPICT6396 (as long as you remove the whole kill anyone that is a burden to someone else, the removal of anything God in public and the anything goes lifestyle).

All this said, here is part of that post from 2007 that I think addresses this issue nicely:

The leftist side believes in Choice. Just as long as that Choice doesn’t contradict the leftist side. Understand?

I think my favorite leftist example of this is the concept of charity. They want everyone to give until it hurts. What if you want to give to a Crisis Pregnancy Center? Well, then you shouldn’t give. The charity must be okayed by the liberals, so you will be correct in your choice.

The liberals seem to be pushing for a socialistic government.  They want property and wealth to be controlled by (them).  You can’t tax the rich enough and you can’t give the poor enough.  But there are serious problems with this.  The rich get angry that they are doing all the work while the poor become addicted to the handouts.

Obesity and You

While thinking about that Big Mac I had last night and the two pop tarts I just engulfed one of Fox News morning show’s topic was fitness programs for children.

Let me first bring you up to speed on the statistics of Childhood Obesity:childhood_obesity

Data from NHANES surveys (1976–1980 and 2003–2006) show that the prevalence of obesity has increased: for children aged 2–5 years, prevalence increased from 5.0% to 12.4%; for those aged 6–11 years, prevalence increased from 6.5% to 17.0%; and for those aged 12–19 years, prevalence increased from 5.0% to 17.6%.

(O)ne study found that approximately 80% of children who were overweight at aged 10–15 years were obese adults at age 25 years…..

(I)f overweight begins before 8 years of age, obesity in adulthood is likely to be more severe…….

The answer most people seem to be thinking is the right answer is to send their kids away for their work outs.  It seems throwing a ball back and forth with your kids at the Parks or backyard just isn’t the “in” thing to do anymore.

Open letters to congress: the drafts

These are the first few drafts for postcards I have come up with to send to my state senators regarding the latest development in the health care debate. And then the final one.

1. Dear Sen McCaskill,

You claim to listen to your constituents and I would like you to hear my voice. I’m tired of Democrats not having any balls when it comes to the public option. Those who have no intention of voting for a public option have no room to make demands. Please remember that the people who voted for you want legislation with some tiny semblance of logic.

Best,

Kate

2. Dear Sen McCaskill,

I would like to express my concern with your party’s actions in Congress and your responsibility to be a representative of the people. Removing a public option while requiring health insurance is irresponsible and illogical at best. Please advise Harry Reid to stop caving to demands of people who are in the minority and are only going to stall it enough to piss people off enough to vote them in. At this point, the Democratic party is responsible, so stop making the word Democrat synonymous with ‘pussy.’

Bully’s in the White House

I can’t help but to laugh at all the people who are “surprised” at how the White House is trying to intimidate the news organizations into reporting only positive stories on what they are doing.  Seriously!  They are surprised.  It’s not like we, conservatives, didn’t forewarn everyone that this would happen.  You can go here and here to see just two of the articles I wrote on the subject before the elections.

Well, the New York Times, along with most of the other liberal news organizations, are finally waking up:

Mr. Ailes, (chairman and chief executive at FNC) who had reached out to Mr. Axelrod (Sr. White House adviser) to address rising tensions between the network and the White House, told him that Fox’s reporters were fair, if tough, and should be considered separate from the Fox commentators who were skewering President Obama nightly, according to people briefed on the meeting. Mr. Axelrod said it was the view of the White House that Fox News had blurred the line between news and anti-Obama advocacy. new-york-times-building

What both men took to be the start of a frank but productive dialogue proved, in retrospect, more akin to the round of pre-Pearl Harbor peace talks between the United States and Japan.

Confessions of an Abortion Addict

A new memoir has come out that has everyone on the abortion debate at a loss for words:

A woman has admitted to being ‘an abortion addict’ after having 15 terminations over 17 years.

Irene Vilar said she had the abortions not from poverty or fear but as an extraordinary act of rebellion against her ‘controlling’ husband who did not want children……

Now a successful literary agent with two young daughters, Loretta, five, ImpossibleMotherhood and Lolita, three, Mrs Vilar has written about her experiences in a memoir, called Impossible Motherhood: Testimony of an Abortion Addict…..

Mrs Vilar said of the book’s reception: ‘I am worried about my safety and the hate mail. I just imagine the “baby killer” stuff and I could be a poster child for that kind of fundamentalism.’

The article explains Ms. Vilar’s life, which is not pretty.  When she was 8 years old she watched her mother commit suicide and 2 of her brothers are heroin addicts – among other examples.  Now, I’m not saying this excuses her behavior, but it does show us that respecting life wasn’t something she experienced growing up.

Whatever happened to Global Warming?

I was researching this story before I saw Rae’s comment about it snowing in Minnesota on October 12 – which is up to par with my memory of living in Minnesota from 1972 – 1977.  We had to wear snowsuits over our Halloween costumes (while Dad was dressed up like a lady going trick or beering!) and our parents were able to put Easter Bunny foot prints in the snow for Easter.  So, this story comes at just the right time.

So, how warm is our planet getting?  Well, the temperature has not gone up in the past 11 years and now it looks like it is going to start to get cold again.  Is Global Warming…er, I mean Climate Change….A Convenient Lie?

Of course the Global Warming…er, Climate Change people are sticking with their story, it gets a bit difficult to shout out that the ice caps melting is proof, when the ice caps on Mars is melting at the same  time.

And now, we have Al Gore refusing to answer questions critical of his mockumentary at the gathering of the Society of Environmental Journalists!  The question was why did his joke of a “movie” claim that the Polar Bears are going extinct when in fact they are growing in numbers.  Woopsies!

Speaking of Frothing at the Mouth……

The Liberal blogs are all a fluster.  I love it!  This has nothing to do with Obama – because they are probably still hung over from the “he got a prize for doing nothing” party.  What I’m talking about is the American Medical Associations report card on Insurance companies.  Ya know, those big baddies that don’t pay for squat!  Wanna know which insurance company denied the most coverage?  Medicare.  The government.

image

Now I know everyone, even the conservative news, wants everyone to think that the big bad insurance companies are allowed to deny pre-existing conditions willy nilly with no thought to the person and that Medicare must cover all who are eligible, as suggested by the Daily Kos.  Well, that is simply untrue.  Guess what?  There is a federal law (federal law trumps state laws) that mandates that  insurance companies must have legitimate reasons and can only withhold coverage for pre-existing conditions for a specific amount of time.  That little law is something that is well known but this section doesn’t seem to see much public light.  It is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).  It can be found in Title 29 U.S.C. 1181.

“Why I attended a Tea Party (an abbreviated autobiography)”

Dear Olde Dad sent me a presentation he gave to his local Inquisitors Club.  It is so good, I wanted to share with everyone.  (Gee, I wonder whose Dad he could be? hmm….) – I removed personal information.

John Goodman, explaining the town-hall protests in a Wall Street Journal article: “Why are they so angry? The reasons are manifold, but the single biggest reason is the arrogance of our elected officials in Washington. Think about it. For the past seven months a small group of politicians has been meeting behind closed doors with powerful special interests to decide whether

· You will be able to keep your current (health) insurance,

· Where you will be directed to get new insurance and at what price,

· What fines you and your employer will have to pay if you don’t conform, declaration

· And how they’re going to get your doctor to change the way he or she practices medicine.

In the process, they never asked you what you thought about anything. If you are not mad about this, odds are you don’t understand the situation.”

Religious people have never been criticized!

Whew!  I’m so glad that the Center for Inquiry has informed us that Religious people have never been criticized and have been allowed to walk around free for too long.

September 30 is International Blasphemy Day according to the Center for Inquiry.  The day wasChristianShapes-Crosses chosen because it is the anniversary date of the Danish Cartoon of Muhammad that outraged the Muslim communities.  However, their events don’t seem to be criticizing Islam at all, but only Christians.  Hm….. Stupid is as Stupid does is such a good description of this group.

Other than the Danish Cartoon there was one more thing that got the Atheists butts-a-burning:

The UN, rather than standing up for free speech, has given in to pressure from Islamic nations and has proposed a resolution to essentially ban criticism of religion. In its pursuit of "tolerance" for religion, this resolution wants to strip everyone, everywhere, of their freedom, even their obligation, to criticize what they oppose.

The Greatest Gift of All

The worse case scenario happened to Carolyn Savage.  The news was heartbreaking and left her confused and wanting answers.  However, abortion was never an option even though she was carrying another couple’s child:

Embryo mix-ups at fertility clinics are extremely rare. In those few instances, they’ve degenerated into custody battles, ugly lawsuits and at least one abortion. But not this time. Savage and her husband decided that the right thing—the only thing—to do was to give the baby to the biological parents.

"This was someone else’s child," she told The Associated Press on GaryBClark Wednesday. "We didn’t know who it was. We didn’t know if they didn’t have children or if this was their last chance for a child."

"We knew if our child was out there, we’d go to the ends of the earth to get our child back," she said.

Savage, 40, is due to give birth to a boy within the next two weeks via cesarean section. When it happens, biological parents Paul and Shannon Morell, of Michigan, will be nearby, waiting to meet their son.
