Transparency is not so transparent with Obama administration
I think a song from the Naked Eyes said it best:
You made me promises promises
You knew you’d never keep
Promises promises
Why do I believe
All of your promises
You knew you’d never keep
Promises promises
Why do I believe
The AP reports:
One year into its promise of greater government transparency, the Obama administration is more often citing exceptions to the nation’s open records law to withhold federal records…
![]()
Major agencies cited the exemption at least 70,779 times during the 2009 budget year, up from 47,395 times during President George W. Bush’s final full budget year, according to annual reports filed by federal agencies. Obama was president for nine months in the 2009 period…..
The AP’s review of annual Freedom of Information Act reports filed by 17 major agencies found that the administration’s use of nearly every one of the law’s nine exemptions to withhold information from the public increased during fiscal year 2009, which ended last October.
The agencies cited exemptions at least 466,872 times in budget year 2009, compared with 312,683 times the previous year, the review found. Over the same period, the number of information requests declined by about 11 percent, from 493,610 requests in fiscal 2008 to 444,924 in 2009….
Michelle Obama with her apple
This one is a bit odd. I just keep thinking about the people who see images of Jesus or Mary in toast, stains, cheetos….etc.
Here is the original picture of the cover of Newsweek with Michelle Obama:
What with that apple? Lets do a close up:
Some are saying that it looks like Karl Marx:
(added after published)…I’ve been hearing on the blogosphere that some think it looks more like Rasputin:
And what is with that reflection of the apple on the table?
If I’m not mistaken, the reflection gets the white shirt, black jacket and the white beard a bit better. Wait – aren’t reflections suppose to be upside down?
Now, I don’t believe most of these things, but you have to admit, this is a bit weird.

UPDATE FROM HILLBUZZ:
UPDATE: This photo is the real Newsweek cover.
It has not been photoshopped.
Early this morning, 3/16/10, it looks like the White House ordered Newsweek to crop the photo so the apple is no longer visible online. Newsweek has cut the table out completely, now, because whatever’s going on in this photo was noticed by the public.
When fat just isn’t fat enough
There are no words to introduce this story. It does show that gluttony is growing every day in this culture:
Miss Simpson, 42, from New Jersey, USA, already holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s biggest mum.
She was 520lbs when she had daughter Jacqueline, three, becoming the largest woman to give birth.
Now she weighs a mega 600lbs, or 43 stone, and hopes to break the 1,000lbs or half a ton mark.
Miss Simpson, who wears XXXXXXXL dresses, eats whole cakes and bags of donuts and tries to move as little as possible.
"I’d love to be 1,000lb," she said.
"It might be hard though. Running after my daughter keeps my weight down."
She runs her own website where people pay to watch her eat, or see her wash her huge body.
The cash helps fund the family’s $750 a week food shop, which Miss Simpson carries out in her mobility scooter…..
So, people are paying to watch her eat and bathe herself. How gross is that?
Going to God instead of running from Him
In the days after 9/11 I heard a lot of American complaining about God. “Why did HE let it happen”. It amazed me that everyone forgot that there is evil in this world and that evil brings people to act. It is good that is always harmed by evil. So, exactly how God fit in the 9/11 equation was beyond me.
Then we have Haiti. The earthquake was a natural occurrence. It devastated an already devastated country. So what did the people do? The stretched their arms out to God and asked Him for help. Amazing how different cultures see things. HisMan linked to a very inspiring video in a comment today. It is very powerful.
Obama the Uniter – Not!
Among Obama’s many hallow promises during the election was that he would be a uniter and not a divider. That he would be bipartisan and bring everyone together. So far we’ve seen democrat only closed door meetings and televised debacles that showed Obama refusing to listen. (My favorite part was when he got mad that the Republicans had the audacity to *gasp* bring Obama’s own proposed bill to the meeting! The proposed bill was the purpose of the meeting.) Well, now we are seeing this great “uniter” messing up overseas.
U.S.-Israeli relations have hit a 35-year low over a contentious east Jerusalem building project that threatens to derail peacemaking efforts with the Palestinians, Israel’s envoy to Washington was quoted as saying Monday….
"Israel’s ties with the United States are in their worst crisis since 1975 … a crisis of historic proportions," the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper quoted Oren as saying to Israeli diplomats in a phone briefing over the weekend.
Israeli officials said that the U.S. is pressing the Jewish nation to scrap the east Jerusalem building project.
Top U.S. officials have lined up in recent days to condemn the Israeli plan to build 1,600 apartments in east Jerusalem, the sector of the holy city that the Palestinians claim for their future capital.

What should pro-life democrats do?
How many times do we hear that the democratic party isn’t the party of death? They falsely claim they are the party of choice. Well, once again we can show that they are only for the choice as long as they agree with that choice.
Rep. Bart Stupak, a pro-life Democrat, is chagrined. “They’re ignoring me,” he says, in a phone interview with National Review Online. “That’s their strategy now. The House Democratic leaders think they have the votes to pass the Senate’s health-care bill without us. At this point, there is no doubt that they’ve been able to peel off one or two of my twelve. And even if they don’t have the votes, it’s been made clear to us that they won’t insert our language on the abortion issue.”
Kathleen Sebelious made the network interview rounds last week and said specifically that abortion would not be funded by Obama’s healthcare plan. She wouldn’t answer why they wouldn’t put that in writing. Lies are the change we get … I’m afraid to see what the hope is.
Texas Textbooks that brainwash
I tried to find this story on CNN and MSNBC but I couldn’t find it anywhere but Fox (for National news). I couldn’t. Seriously, I couldn’t. Go to Google news and Fox, along with some conservative blogs/websites, are the only ones talking about this subject. Which is really very funny because both conservative and liberals are being vocal.
Why should we care? This is going on in Texas, not every state, right? Wrong. Texas is one of the biggest buyer of textbooks, which means they have the most say over what textbooks are used in about 90% of America’s public schools.
The battle right now is over what will be taught in social studies and history. From the mindset of the right:
It’s a battle Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice, is watching closely, "Well, if you grab the minds of the young people you grab the minds of the next generation." Sekulow believes a child’s school board meeting is the most important governmental event a parent can plug into. "Parents don’t check their rights to raise their children at the door to the schoolhouse," Sekulow cautions. He knows the stakes are high this week in Texas because, "This curriculum, once established, will affect a generation of students – how they think.
Women fight so girls can die
It is women who lead the fight for abortion. Women. If abortion and the killing of an innocent child wasn’t lawful and encouraged we wouldn’t be here right now, would we? Every time a woman
stands by abortion, she stands by this story. She says that women are not worth anything. She says that it is okay to encourage a male dominated society which history has shown to be violent societies, especially toward women.
So, as the story goes:
XINRAN XUE, a Chinese writer, describes visiting a peasant family in the Yimeng area of Shandong province…….“To my absolute horror, I saw a tiny foot poking out of the pail. The midwife must have dropped that tiny baby alive into the slops pail! I nearly threw myself at it, but the two policemen….held my shoulders in a firm grip…..“‘But that’s…murder…and you’re the police!’ The little foot was still now. The policemen held on to me for a few more minutes. ‘Doing a baby girl is not a big thing around here,’ [an] older woman said comfortingly. ‘That’s a living child,’ I said in a shaking voice, pointing at the slops pail. ‘It’s not a child,’ she corrected me. ‘It’s a girl baby, and we can’t keep it. Around these parts, you can’t get by without a son. Girl babies don’t count.’”
The stupidity of Sean Penn
I love the Hollyweird left. They have no idea what they talk about, yet they just keep spilling their guts and showing their stupidity. Sean Penn is really good at it too.
Penn, appearing on HBO’s "Real Time with Bill Maher" on Friday, defended Chavez during a segment in which he detailed his work with the JP Haitian Relief Organization, which he co-founded.
"Every day, this elected leader is called a dictator here, and we just accept it, and accept it" said Penn, winner of two Best Actor Academy Awards. "And this is mainstream media, who
should — truly, there should be a bar by which one goes to prison for these kinds of lies."
1 + 1 = denial of the first amendment. Oooookkaaayyyyyy. He also said that he hoped people who questioned his motives in helping Haiti would get rectal cancer, but that’s another story for another day. The hypocrisy of it all is astounding.
Let’s just look a bit into the charges made against Sean Penn’s buddy:
Human Rights Violations
A 2006 State Department report on human rights documented a slew of abuses, including data implicating Chavez’s security forces in about 6,000 killings over five years.
