On Wednesday ProLifeBlogs had an article on prenatal testing and Down Syndrome. This is what “the right to choose” is all about:

A study conducted a couple years ago on 38,000 American women revealed that Down Syndrome can be detected at just 11 weeks
after conception…. This test is slightly more accurate than the current quadruple test offered at 16 weeks gestation, but a 5% false positive rate remains inherent in the test results.
Once the test determines that a woman is carrying a child with Down Syndrome, doctors often do not know how to relay that information…. Many parents of children with Down Syndrome share stories of doctors starting with “I’m sorry” or “I have bad news.” One woman who decided she would continue her pregnancy spoke of her doctor reminding her that she could still undergo a late term abortion if the ultrasound indicated that the baby would need heart surgery (as many infants with Down Syndrome do within the first year of birth).
Unfortunately, many families who find that they have a child who is “imperfect” choose to end that baby’s life through abortion. About 90% of parents who find that their child has Down Syndrome choose to abort that child.
The New York Times also described a general unease about “drawing the line between preventing disability and accepting human diversity.” They reported about one mom’s concerns, “If all these people terminate babies with Down Syndrome, there won’t be programs, there won’t be acceptance or tolerance.”
90% are aborted. Just sit back and think on that for a moment. What will the liberals do when there is a genetic test for low IQ? What about homosexuality? The list is endless. It starts with Down’s Syndrome. Where will it end? When will society wake up and realize we have just started to put our unborn children into silent concentration camps? At the end of WWII we were able to see the survivors of Hitler’s Eugenics. We walked through the camps; we could smell the death and see the horrors. There were survivors in WWII and they told their stories.
There are no survivors in the Liberal’s Eugenics.

when I got pregnant with my first 3 children, I was told I was having an amniocentesis. I told the Dr’s each time that I wasn’t and they said we’ll talk about it later and I replied, “no we won’t!” and that was the last they mentioned it. I had the triple screen blood test done b/c I was led to believe it was required in Jersey but I did it with the Dr’s knowing that I wouldn’t do anything regardless of the outcome. The test came back positive for Down’s for my third child. They wanted to do an amniocentesis again and I refused. I let them do a level 2 ultrasound instead which showed that everything was okay. With my last child (#4), I was 39 years old and seeing an NFP only physician. They mentioned the triple screen test b/c they had to but were very happy when I turned it down. We did a level 2 ultrasound b/c of my “advanced age” but amniocentesis was never even mentioned! These are also the doctors that put me on progesterone b4 they had even seen me b/c I had had 2 miscarriages in the last year and knew that that was my problem. B/c of them I have a healthy 9 month old daughter now. It scares me to think of how many babies are being killed b/c they are less than perfect and how many babies are being killed who have no problems b/c the parents are worried or have been led to believe that there are problems…
When I was pregnant with my 1st child I did all the tests. I knew that I wouldn’t abort or anything but I thought it would be best to be prepared and some of the neural tube defects can be improved by surgery in utero. We were all excited when we were told everything was negative. It didn’t prepare us for premature labor, delivery and baby. He was born at 31 weeks gestation. He was 3 pounds 10 ounces and in the hospital for 35 days before he could go home. So much for the testing to be prepared! With my daughter I didn’t do any testing. I figured there was no guarentee so why waste the money. Also, I was considered high risk so I knew there would be alot of ultra sounds done and that could detect things like spina bifida.
I think what bothers me is the statistics. How do they know that there is a 5% failure rate when 90% are aborted? With the way some abortions are done there would be no way of knowing if the test was accurate just by looking at the baby. And I’m sure the mother isn’t going to pay for the testing to be done to make sure. Now that women can ‘choose’ to abort earlier it will be impossible to know if that number is accurate. It just breaks my heart knowing that these children are “unwanted” just because they aren’t perfect. Just because it will be more difficult to raise the child. Just because they don’t want people to see them with a “child like that”.

their claims that the triple screen test is 90% accurate are wrong as well. It is more like 95% innaccurate! If you get one thing wrong in the calculation, date of conception or date of test than that skews the result! This happened to a friend of mine. They got how far along she was wrong…inserted the wrong date and it came back that her child had down’s. She refused to abort and her baby was fine when she was born. I know another woman who it took forever to get pregnant, she was 40 or a little older when she finally did become pregnant and she said if the test came back that she was carrying a baby with Down’s she would have aborted! I just can’t understand that…
