Planned Parenthood Must Restructure or Close.

By Valerie Jane | June 18, 2007

I’ve never been able to figure out why abortion mills, I mean clinics do not have to follow state requirements that other surgical centers do.  When these regulations aren’t followed women get injured or even worse, killed.  Just like at the MMR in NJ who put a woman in a coma after a botched abortion.  When investigators went into that mill - err.. - clinic they found that the sanitation level was worse than most animal hospitals.  Read this article to see how disgusting this place was.

But I digress.  In Missouri the laws are about to change and this has Planned Parenthood in a panic.  They are going to be forced to comply with proper medical regulations.  From the Columbia Missourian:

At issue is a measure that would require any facility that performs more than five first-trimester abortions a month, or any second- or third-trimester abortions, to meet the state licensure requirements for an “ambulatory surgical center.”

To comply with the specifications for an ambulatory surgical center, the http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.cchealth.org/services/ems/img/ambulance_and_emt_330_215.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.cchealth.org/services/ems/&h=215&w=330&sz=15&hl=en&start=7&sig2=ZZiWpJv8mw72xBI0eGGG2Q&um=1&tbnid=OEG7M7iioeSZNM:&tbnh=78&tbnw=119&ei=CqV2Rvy0F4bYiQHBs5SZBw&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dambulance%2BEMT%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4SUNA_enUS221US224Columbia and Kansas City (Planned Parenthood) clinics likely would have to be remodeled, (Chief Executive Officer Peter) Brownlie said. For example, state regulations require halls to be at least 8 feet wide leading to operating and recovery rooms and at least 5 feet wide elsewhere. Doors to exits, operating rooms and recovery rooms must be at least 44 inches wide while other doors must be at least 32 inches wide.

Ambulatory surgical centers also must meet requirements for emergency equipment, infection control, medical staffing and numerous other things.

Let’s see - why would the hallway’s and doors need to be so specific in how wide everything is?  Could it be so that an emergency crew can get to the woman who may need more care than what the clinic can provide?  I think so.  This is very reasonable to me because I actually care about the health of the woman and wouldn’t want her to bleed to death or worse because EMT’s couldn’t do their jobs because of building structure flaws. But something tells me it is the last requirements listed that are causing the problems.

This is how much Planned Parenthood cares about these regulations:

“There’s no question that it imposes considerable expense and considerable difficulty in maintaining access to that (abortion) service,” Brownlie said.

www.leonuniform.com/Emblems_EMTstock.htmNot one mention of the health of the woman.  I personally would think they would be more than happy to follow state licensure regulations.  These regulations were put in place so the patients would be safe.  But instead Planned Parenthood is more concerned about the money they will have to spend.  Brownlie does care about access to abortion, but in typical baby killing fashion doesn’t care about the safety of the abortion.

You may want to know why the politicians are putting this measure in place:

Bill sponsor Rep. Therese Sander, R-Moberly, said a lot of first-trimester abortions use a “dilation and curettage” procedure similar to what’s performed in hospitals or ambulatory surgical centers after miscarriages or for other women’s health treatments.

“Because they’re doing the same kinds of procedures, they should have to operate under the same kinds of safety standards, inspection standards, staffing standards (and) keeping adequate medical-record standards,” Sander said.

She added: “We’re simply taking steps that are necessary to protect the safety of the women undergoing these procedures.”

I think what scares me the most in all of this is the politician is more concerned about the health of woman than the mill, oops, clinic.
