Lilith was chosen to represent women (Lilith fair) because she didn’t submit to Adam.

Fact:  Lilith was chosen because she refused to submit to Adam and left the Garden of Eden.  She is seen by many as the first Lilith by John Collierfeminist.

This is interesting considering the complete truth.  Lilith, according to the same mythology that maintains her “independence”, is also a demon.  Oops, did they forget to tell you that.  She is the mythological female Mesopotamian storm demon who is the bearer of disease, illness and death.  In Folk Tradition she was made from fire instead of soil, like Adam and she escaped The Garden of Eden with Satan.  She is worshiped by the Church of Satan as being the wife of Satan.  In Luciferanism she is seen as an aspect of Lucifer and is the Queen of the Succubi.

One aspect that most of the mythologys have in common is their description of Lilith as a child killer or a child stealer.  She was said to be the reason for SIDS.

In Kabballah there are many different stories and traditions that describe Lilith.  In one story she was not created by God but born sponstaneously as a divine entity.  In another she was created on the fifth day, before Adam.  And another says she was created with Adam but she was contained in Adam’s body until God removed her.  Even though all these sound like she would be considered a good person, in the end she is always some sort of demon and merging with Satan.

In other beliefs and traditions she is seen as a part of the unholy trinity.  Satan, Lilith and Cain.  It is also said that she later returned to the Garden of Eden and repeatedly raped Adam.

There is so much more.  The University of Pennsylvania, among many other colleges, have great information on this subject.
