The internet police are baaaack…..

Okay, what is going on here.  First, we need to model our healthcare after communistic Cuba, now we need to model our cyber security after China.

From NBC:

Cross cyber terrorism off of your list of things to worry about. President Barack Obama has it covered…….

CNET News obtained a copy of the 55-page draft (pdf), which still contains the controversial presidential seizure powers of the initial draft of the bill. Security experts and civil rights groups worry the bill would Rosarito give the president too much power to control the Internet.

The new version of the bill would give Mr. Obama the ability to "direct the national response to the cyber threat" for "the national defense and security" of the country, CNET reported. The bill would also allow the president to "declare a cyber security emergency" over "non-governmental" computer networks and to decide the necessary response.

One expert said the bill, if approved, would give the government far reaching powers over a so-called "critical" company, including who those companies could hire, what information they would be forced to disclose to the government and of course the ability to take control over their computers and networks.

A Rockefeller aide said the bill is still being developed and he declined to comment because several people familiar with the bill were unavailable because of the congressional summer recess.

The internet not only controls our entertainment but our phone systems, bank accounts, and many other aspects of our lives.  If Obama “pushes the button on the internet” we would literally be at the mercy of the government.  Think about it.  No ATM’s would work.  No credit cards would work.  Checks couldn’t be verified.  We would not be able to get News – unless we go to that strange guy that has one of the ancient HAM radios, which most news organizations and government do not have anymore.

Our entire lives are lived through the internet.  Would you want Bush or Cheney in power of that?

A bunch of hacker wannabee’s that most likely don’t even vote… Yeah, that will scare the government… I am sure, that the second the internet is OFF, they will so hack into government websites and deface them…

It’s not like there communications can’t be shut off instantly… http://mashable.com/2009/07/27/att-4chan-response/

People with guns and the authority to use them, tend to be scarier than hackers.

Stu- you are such a killjoy.

I’m sure you already have your guns and ammo pleasantly stocked in an easily accessible (for you, not the children) spot.

True = Kill joy and stockpile. Kids have their own stockpile… of toys. ;-)

But the point is valid, that too much power in the governments hands is dangerous.

@Stu: I agree. I prefer the “wild west-ness” of the intertubes.

Also- please tell me the kids at least have Nerf guns. Those things HURT. :-p
