Czar. What is a Czar? The first thing I think of is a dictator type Emperor in Russia and other oppressed countries, so why do we have them here?
A Czar in the U.S. is someone who overseas a project, does not need Congress confirmation and reports directly to the President or to whoever the President dictates they report to.
I’m going to assume that most U.S. Presidents have had a czar or two. Usually czars come and go, sometimes a President creates a new one but it isn’t necessarily standard practice.
Here is a list of Czars that have been used since Reagan:
Ronald Reagan:
- Drug Czar
- Drug Czar
Bill Clinton:
- Health Czar
- AIDS Czar
- Drug Czar
George W. Bush:
- National Intelligence Czar
- Cyber Security Czar
- AIDS Czar
- Drug Czar
Barack Obama:
-
- AF-PAK Czar
- Cyber Security Czar
- U.S. Border Czar
- Car Czar
- Climate Czar
- Drug Czar
- Economic Czar
- Energy Czar
- Faith – Based Czar
- Guantanamo Closure Czar
- Health Reform Czar
- Info Tech Czar
- Middle Ease Czar
- Non-Proliferation Czar
- Executive Pay Czar
- Persian Gulf/Southeast Asia Czar
- Regulatory Czar
- Stimulus Accountability Czar
- Sudan Czar
- Tarp Czar
- Terrorism Czar
- Urban Czar
- Science Czar
The Czar that is getting alot of attention now is the Science Czar who is John Holdren. Supposedly in the book, EcoScience, which he co-authored with Paul R. Ehrlich and Anne H. Ehrlich, he supports Forced abortions, Mass sterilizations, Teen/Single Mothers should not be allowed to raise their children, and Reproductive Responsibility. This book was published in 1977 (?) – long after Eugenics was a “fad”.
The book is out of print now according to Amazon, but I’m going to try to find it at the library to confirm this.
So, we have the most Czars since 1980 that were appointed was 4 until Obama who has 23 Czars and counting.
Remember – these Czars do not report to Congress. What I find hysterical is that the Democrats are wining about the CIA supposedly not divulging all information but they haven’t said anything about their own President who could be keeping the most secrets. Of course they only complain about not getting all the information after one of their own gets in the hot seat for not knowing what she was briefed on. Perhaps the Democrats should stop blocking the release of the reports from the CIA to Congress for the last 8 years so we can concentrate on what Obama’s Czars are doing.
One last parting thought – Obama promised us change. Did we ever ask what kind of change he wanted?

The Czars are not confirmed by the Senate and apparently accountable only to the President. Separation of Powers?
