I get email alerts from the White House and one I just got is of some interest.
Dear Friend,
As you read this, we are closer than ever to passing comprehensive health insurance reform that benefits American families and small businesses. Despite all the back and forth in the news right now, it is important to understand just how far we’ve come in this challenging process.
That’s why I’m holding a press conference tonight at 8pm ET, and writing to let everyone know where we are, what’s ahead, and why health insurance reform is so important.
Let me be clear: although Congress is still debating parts of the legislation we have achieved critical consensus on several key areas:
There is over 1,000 pages in this bill and Obama can only come up with 2 “several” area’s where
there was “consensus”. And here they are:
If you already have health insurance: reform will provide you with more security and stability. It will limit your own out of pocket costs and prevent your insurance company from dropping your coverage if you get too sick. You’ll also have affordable insurance options if you lose or change your job. And it will cover preventive care like check-ups and mammograms that save lives and money.
Let’s start with the “limit your own out of pocket costs”. The Congressional Budget Office, who is staffed by Obama, has said that this bill will not reduce our costs, will not save us money and has a high potential to raise our taxes. And what about options if you lose or change your job? There have been some conservatives who have read the bill that states if you change your job you will not be able to sign up for the new employers insurance because you will be forced to go with one of the government programs.
If you don’t have health insurance: you will finally have guaranteed access to quality, affordable health care, and you can choose the plan that best suits your family’s needs. And no insurance company will be allowed to deny you coverage because of a pre-existing medical condition.
Your choices will be the governments options. And what is the definition of “affordable” if the democratic talking points have been if you can’t afford insurance the government will provide it for you?
Now, I realize that the last few miles of any race are the hardest to run, but we can’t stop now. There’s no dispute about it: we cannot control our long-term fiscal health as a nation without health insurance reform. American families and small businesses understand that the health insurance status quo is taking away those things that they value most about health care. The stability and security that comes with knowing that you can get the treatment you need, when you need it. Without reform, we are consigning our children to a future of skyrocketing premiums and crushing deficits.
We have to seize this opportunity and pass health insurance reform this year. You can help by forwarding this email to your family and friends and letting them know what’s at stake in this debate.
Thank you,
Barack Obama
Is it health care reform or health insurance reform? We are dealing with mostly lawyers, and you know that there is probably a huge difference between the two. Pelosi and Reed have been saying Health care not health insurance reform in the quotes I’ve been reading.
“Stability and Security”? I wonder if Obama has read all the states Medical Associations
opposition to this health care bill and how they say it will not provide any such thing.
“Consigning our children to a future of skyrocketing premiums and crushing deficits”. Now he is worried about the kids and the deficits? Perhaps he should have thought of him before he signed off on Trillions of borrowed dollars going to “stimulate” the country. And why don’t we just fix the premiums problems by using tort reform? Shouldn’t we take baby steps instead of a giant leap into no man’s land?
What is the rush? Why does it “have” to be passed NOW? No reform will be done this year no matter when the bill is signed. It will take a couple years to implement, what is the rush? Why rush through all bills that Obama had “promised” the people? Did his promise on healthcare reform include it be done now, now, now?
Doesn’t Obama have more to do than get in front of camera’s every day? Seriously, how can he possibly be dealing with foreign affairs, the skyrocketing unemployment rates and how the stimulus money is being spent if he can’t tell the camera men to find someone else to film.
