The topic of abortion, something most people like to ignore, is becoming front and center in the news lately. Lifenews reported a new CNN Opinion Research corporation poll shows that Americans oppose Obama’s abortion record since taking office however CNN’s headline on the same poll says that his abortion record isn’t hurting him. HUH?
You all know me and when I come up with these things I go straight to the source. Well, good luck finding the source. I can’t. Could I be looking too soon? So, I’m still bewildered on what that poll actually said. I refuse to read bias “interpretation” of a poll, which both Lifenews and CNN are, so I just kept on searching until I found Polling Report website. Funny thing is, they are only showing 1 question from the CNN poll. Something tells me they couldn’t find the source either.
One thing I found very interesting is a Gallup poll taken May 7 –10 2009 showed that 53% of Americans think abortion should be legal ONLY under certain circumstances and 23% say illegal in all circumstances. So basically 76% of the American people do not agree with the abortion laws we have today. Now that is something that shocked me! Or how about this – the same Gallup Poll going back to 1975 (asking the exact same question through all those years) has always shown that an average of 73% of American’s do not agree with the abortion laws. And now for the most shocking – the highest percentage of people believing abortion should be legal under all circumstances is 31% in 1990. The average through all those year was just 25%. Um, aren’t we constantly told that no one wants the abortion laws to be messed with? Aren’t we always told that our abortion laws are too restrictive? Something tells me this isn’t entirely true.
Something else that is fascinating to me (geek warning). A Fox News poll shows that since 1999 the average for people calling themselves Pro-life is 42% and the average for people calling themselves Pro-Choice is 47%. With the “room for error” these are almost equal. I think the nation has always been 1/2 and 1/2 on the abortion issue, but no one would actually come out and say it.
The “powers that be” have made it sound like America would just crumble if there are any restrictions placed on abortion. Somehow, I just don’t think that is true. I believe we are crumbling as a society because we are not putting enough restrictions on it. Peace, Love, Frisbee attitude can only last so long before a culture looses focus and dies.
Well, my royal geekiness is done rambling now. Did Ya’ll keep up with all of that?
